Sewer Problems

Homeowner Responsibilities

Your home is connected to the public sanitary sewer via underground pipe called a lateral. Some homes have a grinder pump to push sewage into the sewer.

Maintenance and repair of grinder pump and lateral up to the property line are the responsibility of the homeowner.

The Sewer Authority is responsible for the public sewer outside of your property.

Reporting a public sewer problem

When you observe or suspect a problem in the public sewer call the Sewer Authority Manager at (610) 388-8800 ext. 104.

If you have a true Sewer EMERGENCY after business hours, contact the Pennsylvania State Police at (484) 840-1000 and ask them to contact the Authority (Township) Manager.

In either situation, we shall dispatch a contractor to diagnose the problem.  If the cause of the reported problem is found in the lateral or the grinder pump on your property, the cost of the initial diagnosis will be charged to you. The cost and repair of your lateral or grinder pump will be your responsibility. If the problem is in the Sewer Authority system we will make the repair at no cost to you.
